Hmm - thought provoking newsletter this week Wal.  A few sheepish people feeling a bit annoyed with themselves for not putting in a submission too I'll bet.  I am most interested to see what the PGDB come out with in terms of a decision.  Last time the decision was split so they came back to industry as they didn't want to make a decision with so many factors in play - this time I believe they will say that the number is insufficient to base a decision on, and that the vast majority did not submit and therefore this can be construed as agreement with the proposal.  I'd almost lay odds of 2:1 on that.  Then they will have a fight on their hands.  Just out of interest, are there any forum people who did not submit (I'm picking most did seeing as everyone on here tends to have an opinion about everything) - but if you didn't - then why didn't you?

I put one in Jax, and I will say this...... if 2% of the industry replies and agrees with them....they will say that they had 100% feed back agreeing with their proposals, i.e. 100% of the 2% that bothered to submit.

But if they get 2% that disagree with their proposal, then they take it that the remaining 98% of industry are happy and will ignore the outspoken 2%.

We need numbers..... to act and take a stance, or will you piss and moan when it is too late, or jack in and do something else or relocate.......leaving the people responsible for the balls up with less competition and a greater monopoly of OUR industry in OUR country, at everyone Else's expense...and to their profit. It sucks big time.

They act with impunity, because they can...they talk utter shit to our face and get away with it every time.

I am waiting for the up coming increase in fees(to cover them shirking the responsibility of gas certs ) at the feet of the outspoken "destructive" element, i.e. the Federation. How can you be classed as destructive for pointing out illegal actions and very real mistakes and inadequacies?   Unless of course it is destructive to an agenda, a preconceived one at that.

They also claim to be there for the protection of the publics health and safety, I have just received a letter stating that the fact they didn't even interview the office staff and Darnley about an exploding chip shop and their refusal to look at a job where a owner of a house has the same water in his  C/H radiators coming out of his shower and other hot water outlets.....because GET THIS it falls outside the complaints policy....utter bollox....I have said it before ....why are they protecting this Muppet??? We have had an unrelated legionaries outbreak in Auckland.....utter madness

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the Board stated that they are there to uphold public safety. Surely if there was an issue of public safety, the radiators would come into that category.

this guy(who I tried to warn) has a ring main off a califont that circulates "directly" rads and hot water outlets, TRVs isolate the rads for the summer and open for the winter...allowing stagnant water at least 6 months old to come out of his shower head, atomising the water making it nice and easy to inhale and infect him. I told my old boss I wanted to see a specification for the set up because I knew it to be wrong and was told to use "poker face" and pretend I knew what I was doing...this wasn't long before I told him to shove his job up his arse and f**** off....he then went and bought 4 books of certs in my name the very next day and altered a cert in my name by post 3 months after I left, all known to the Board and with their blessing.

I have been trying to warn about this lethal job for many years, before the exploding chip shop.... no action taken against this despicable cunt, please see Boards letter regarding the limiting of the policy in to general complaints....they say one thing publically and act out very differently behind their own protocol, telling lies and ruining people.

We have a poor bastard who nearly dies in an exploding chip shop, and then this sort of carry on with the C/H system, given his ticket after one oral exam by the very same investigator who then doesn't even interview him about the chip shop....bent as a butchers hook!!

This is why every single tradesman in NZ should be pushing for a public inqury, now today

HI GUYS,
Max Pedersen, the Board’s Registrar, said “The Board is committed to ensuring authorised plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism and competency when undertaking work.”

Apart from the regulation role the Board has, it is also given that they have a leadership role in the industry.

Who do these people think they are? they could`nt lead s...t.  I`d like to know the last time they got their hands dirty/worked in all conditions/struggled with heavy materials, the list goes on. We need something serious to happen against them to make the politicians stand up and take notice, our moans and groans seem to be doing nothing,cheers

If you look at their press releases and public statements and compare to actions and how they treat one set of people against another set of people it is disgusting, I have the proof.

Hi guys,

Yes a very thought providing newsletter.  I am an ex plumber and gasfitter and although I haven't posted anything on here apart from selling some tools, I regularly read the your posts.
I work as a building services consultant (yes I know that c word is nearly as bad as saying I work at the board), we have been using 5601 to design gas installations since the end of last year. Really there is very little difference between 5601 and 5621.  I think it is a good move to align our gas standard with the Aussie one.

One other thing, I got out of the trade just over 4 years ago and had to endure CPD for only a few years. Imagine my horror when I discovered that the firm I had joined encourages use to complete 50hrs of CPD hrs every year!

OK I know that I don't have to pay for these and I can complete them during work hours and they are not mandatory for any registration.

So remember guys, keep you chin up, I feel your pain!

hi I agree 5601 is very similar if anything it breaks the 5261 down into more detail to remove some of the interpretation.
I to have gotten out of the industry and now work as a services engineer for a construction company although I have kept my registration this year I wont be one cpd point become compulsary!!

Well to the master plumers i say BRING IT!...you are running scared and must realise that your orginisation like ALL empires will fall and EPIC FAIL, you must be scared to count close to 1000 tradesmen and industre people a small amount you must realise that all these apprentises and licensed tradesmen that you have shunned and looked at through your noses for so many years would not EVER think of joining you...You master plumbers are a dying breed!...good riddence i say!...

The PGDF looks to the industry as a whole and does not carve out any one sector as being above the other as you have for so many years!... you have driven this trade into the ditch in your attempt to maintain your strangle hold and infulence on this industry and now your day of reckoning has come calling...my father a plumber for many years actually a master plumber member for many years told me not to trust or EVER join you as you only have YOU in mind and stuff the rest well now im here to tell you that the rest have now got there own orgisanitation to belong to WE dont need you!...and this new breed of orgisination called the PLUMBERS GASFITTERS AND DRAINLAYERS FEDERATION actually cares about the industry as a whole and you must realise the whole is better than the few which is what you soon will have!...muhahahahahaha

These comments are not aimed at any hardworking MP member but at the way the orgisination has deleloped and at those at the head that direct it in its detrimental path to demise!.

Im a realist people and you MP must be pigs**t thick to tell me that i need to do cpd on a yearly basis when the technology in the plumbing world DOES NOT change and move that fast hell your still using bute and dux and pvc pipe and fall and w/c pan cones and brass fittings and copper and pex pipe and lead flashings these products didnt drop out of the sky yesterday you complete twits!

Over the last 10 years how much revisions to the codes have happned ...I mean F**K ALL has actually changed lets get real about it people shit still runs down hill water still comes in a pipe a fricken shower elbow is still a fricken shower elbow?...aint it?!

Im a realist and i can fully understand and support doing refresher courses but a mandatory YEARLY cpd scam can F**K RIGHT OFF!!!!!....I mean you just got to be so goddamb stupid to think this is going to do any good to the industry maybees your MP back pockets will bulge(which is the real reason your driving this cpd rubbish!)but it wont do diddly squat in making me plumb a 100mm pipe with a 1:60 graident or water proff my penitrations to code or give the correct air gap to my cylinder drain when discharging over a gully...IS IT!!!

Starting to get a little off track here people so all i can say is have a nice weekend and enjoy watching the MP's fade into the sunset.
