Plumbers Rates
« on: December 06, 2011, 04:29:16 PM »
hi guys came across this infor at:- " Enacting the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006 " Google and read it.

 Status quo
6. The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006 (the Act) covers some 11,500 licensed plumbers, gasfitters and Drainlayers and impacts on 3,507 businesses within New Zealand. Eighty-eight percent of these businesses are sole traders or companies employing between one and five people. The average income within the industry is $45,130 p.a. ($990 less than the national average income).

It will be even less after the next licence increase, cheers

hi guys, yes interesting. i don`t think that there are 11,500 licenced guys at this time(could be wrong Wal should know)but if i am right it is probably due to the $900.00 less than the national average wage plus all the increased fees/levy`s/costs etc, only took 6 months for someone to comment on this post, well done Rodz1,cheers

The pathplumbers is to provide our customers with the best price, service and advice. We strive to ensure that our prices remain competitive within our industry.
Labour Rate
Minimum charge of $89.80 inclusive of 1/4 hour labour.
We then charge $89.80 per hour or part thereof (charged in 15 minute increments).
 Equipment
We charge for the use of any high maintenance specific tools such as the electric drain cleaning machine, jackhammer, concrete cutter and angle grinder etc. We ensure that our charges for the use of this equipment are well below the price of hire companies.

I would be interested to know what hourly rates are for gasfitting/plumbing & drainlaying around the country, as I'm looking to make the move from self employed to wage working. I know at tech asking around the apprentice rates varied considerably.
As most of my work s contract I'm out of date.....  ;D

It's very interesting reading about others rates. Our small town (around 2000) has 6 plumbers and the rates are from $45 - $65. Absolutley no-one would pay any more. It's also interesting to watch how long it takes 2 different men to do the same job. The cheapest per hour is not always the cheapest in the long run Have watched 2 men take 6 days to do a job that I took 1.5 to do. It was noted by the builders too!! I just can't imagine how some guys make any money if they are quoting a job and take soooooo long to do it.

Our charge out rates for domestic are $73.00 per hour inclusive of GST + one off $25 travel.  Gas appliance serviceman $98 for first 1/2 hour inclusive then $26 per quarter thereafter + $10 travel.    Commercial contracts are priced differently.  Apprentices charged out at $45 per hour incl GST when they are needed on a two man job.  If they are just learning and you can't justify two men for the job then they are not charged out.
The only difference between a rut and a grave are their dimensions.
