Hi Guys did you hear about this?? Absolutely shocking! I feel so sorry for the family.  I heard a roomer that this was a gas appliance is this true? Not chained back? Do the electrical ones not have to be chained back as well?

hi guys,yes very sad, all gas stoves have to be chained back so they cannot be pulled out further than the gas attatchment, also they should have an anti-tip strap/bracket. Some time ago another lad opened the door to stand on so as to see what was cooking, it was a pot of boiling water that consequently scalded him very badly. The last gas hob/oven that i was involved with had an oven door that opened sideways so no chance of that type of accident,cheers

No I don't think electric ones need to be restrained at all.   However, I don't see how making the brand and model of oven public makes any difference - it's not the fault of the oven.   This is indeed tragic and my heart goes out to the family of this little person.  But why make a big deal about the oven make and model - surely it is the responsibility of parents to supervise children?   We will possibly now see something come out about electric ovens being strapped etc - however, often they are just delivered and plugged in by a homeowner as they do not need a sparky if there is an existing plug - so where then would the responsibility lay??

I saw in one of the news items that they are checking this stove for stabilisers - it could be a faulty oven, but they certainly weren't made for anyone to stand on the door of them I'm sure.  Some little kids can be pretty solid wee things - and it could be where he was climbing - all speculation of course.  There must have been something very interesting on the stove or bench that he was determined to get - otherwise he may have been a boy who loved to climb.  Just goes to show that you need eyes in the back of your head when you have wee kids. Now we will see widespread histeria as people with these stoves think they aren't safe etc.  Bet F&P stove sales take a bit of a dive for a wee while till the media hype dies down.
